I'm sure the majority of you have gotten mad at your father and said something mean or wrong. You probably now regret it. I might never get that chance.
My mother was just 2 or 3 years older than everyone here when I was born. I was very unexpected, and a surprise to all. My mom had thought that the father was a man named Johnny, she had been dating him. They decided it was best if he wasn't in my life though because he was into a lot of drugs and things that weren't meant for a child. Two months later, after they had separated my mom met the man I call dad today. They married and they had my first sister Caitlynn. By the time I was six there were a lot of problems at home. I wont go into to many details with that, but my parents ended up divorcing. When I say parents I mean mom and the man I call my dad. Until I was 7 years old I always thought my dad was biologically my father. Imagine going out with your mom for supper then have her break big news like that. I was lied to for 7 years. I was really upset, but more just in shock.
My mom remarried to my step dad JJ. They had two more kids. Nothing else really happened until I was about 13. I started to question things a lot more and put up a fight. I felt like I needed to know who my real father was. I think that I wanted to know so badly because I was trying to fill in a place I had been missing. The man I call dad moved away to New Brunswick around then, and I hated him for it. I felt he was leaving my sister and I at a time we would need him the most. Since my relationship with dad wasn't there and my relationship with JJ was never great I was looking for a father, or some kind of male role model i wasn't finding.
My mom has always been really hesitant about making contact with him. When I turned 14 she tricked me into having a DNA test done to make sure Johnny really was the father. She told my I was going in for a blood test because they had to check for a kidney problem that was hereditary they had found in my aunt. When the test came back my mom didn't tell me anything for a long while. She would just say she didn't want to talk about it because it was to complicated. Eventually she would finally talk about it with me. She told me that Johnny really wasn't him, and the test had come back negative. I was kind of upset about it, just because Johnny had wanted to be in my life, he was just waiting for me to contact him first.
There is one other guy that she thinks it could be. I haven't been tested yet, but he knows of me, and i obviously know of him. He thinks he's my father, but the dates don't really match up. My mom isn't sure who else it could be, so if it isn't him I wont ever know. That's the main reason I don't want to find out. I would not want to go through my whole life never knowing my biological father.
Now, how have things affected me? Well first off is the trust issues. I have a hard time trusting people now. Maybe because I was lied to so easily for so long. I don't know. Either way I find it very hard to trust my mom, and my step dad now.
It's also been very stressful. Seeing pictures of Wayne, the guy that could be my father is stressful. We don't look a thing alike in my opinion. And then there's the stress of custody issues. If he finds out that I'm his for sure, and then we see each other but I find it to weird or emotional and I don't want to see him any longer, he could battle custody and get visitation rights. I think in this situation though, you either have to live with not knowing or jump right in and just hope for the best.
I think that going through all of this has made me stronger. Things like this really knock you down though sometimes. Its hard to know what to do in certain situations but all you can do is try your best to get by. I know that I'm supported by many people, but sometimes talking about the situation gets weird because its not so common.
A Lot of you may now be thinking, shouldn't my mom know who it is. And yes I believe she probably should. But you never fully know the situation unless your in it, so that's why i don't pass judgement. My mom did the best she could, and I probably couldn't have asked for anything better. At the time though, I guess things were just rough.
I think the point is that everyone is going to have to deal with a tough situation, but how you deal with it is what makes you as a person. The majority of us are going to have to face something were not sure of, but if you just breathe and try and figure things out they will settle out in the end. Next time your trying to deal with something your not sure about, just remember you can always take things slow, and take time to figure things out.

Teenage Pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy is an issue affecting about 750,000 young girls each year. Many of these girls drop out of high school or even junior high, and are unable to get an education. These teen mothers are also forced to grow up a lot faster than their peers. They don't have much time to live their childhood because they are already responsible for the life of another persons. Teenage mothers are also looked down upon by many people in public. Many people believe that a teen mother is going to turn out to be a bad mother, but that is not always the case. There are a few teen mothers who learn how to be responsible, and make the best life for their child that is possible.
There are a few good things about being a teen parent. You may begin to appreciate life more. You start to understand where your parents had been coming from when they were not letting you do certain things. Some mature very quickly and therefor skip a lot of problems you may have if your irresponsible. Having a child enables you from going out all the time, and doing what you want. This can be a good thing because you wont have the time to be our drinking and partying with friends. For others this is not the case though. There are always different circumstances with different people. No matter what though, there is still always the beauty of having and loving a child. No matter the age, nothing can take away the amazement you will feel after giving birth to a child.
While there were a few good things, the negative side effects would certainly weigh out the positive things that teenage pregnancy would bring. With teen pregnancy money is most likely one of the biggest issues. You probably don't have much of an income, and if you are one of the 66% of people who don't finish high school once they become pregnant, finding a good job will be close to impossible. Therefore you wont have enough money to support yourself and a baby once out on your own. Once the baby is born you will loose a lot of your freedom. While I did mention this could be a good thing, it can also be very bad as well. While pregnant you will not be able to do the same things that your peers do, and will most likely not fit in. With the baby bump you will carry, you may be looked down upon by the public, as well as family, and of course friends. It could cause a lot of angry or maybe even unhappy feelings towards the baby, which may carry on into when the child is born. There are many more things that pregnancy at a young age can cause, the relationship you had with your boyfriend, husband or man you were with has a 60% chance of being over. Only 40% of teenage mothers are with the man who helped them conceive the baby, once it is born.
If a young girl does get pregnant, there are a few different options of what she can do next. There is abortion, when the fetus is removed from the uterus and disposed of. This is a very controversial subject, and there are many different opinions on this topic. Either way, it is still legal and your choice. She could put the baby up for adoption. This is when the child gets taken care of by another family, who is ready and financially stable. The last option is to keep the baby. This will be a very difficult time for a young mother. No matter what she chooses, it should be 100% about what she want. It is the females body, and if she feels like giving up the baby is the best decision for her and the child, she is completely in control of that. If she chooses to keep the baby, there is financial support she can get from the government. No matter what the young women chooses to do, she should think very carefully about the decision she is making.
Teen pregnancy is a big issue, and it does happen all over the world. It can really hurt a young girls life, especially if she is unable to support herself and the baby which is normally the case. There are ways of preventing pregnancy such as birth control pills, condoms, and Depro Provera. If a young girl does choose to have sex, she should make sure to use protection. That being said, a life of any child is beautiful and should be strongly appreciated no matter who the parents are.

Hurricane Juan
On September 28th one of the most powerful and destructive hurricanes to ever hit Atlantic Canada struck the coastline of Prince Edward Island. Hurricane Juan was a very harmful and costly storm. It's winds caused power outages all over Atlantic Canada. Though there were plenty of bad side effects, there were also a positive as well. The hurricane helped by killing off many Spruce Beetles that were harming the tree's, but unfortunately killing all of the tree's to. There was a lot of damage done to house's, and there was money required to repair everything. The hurricane caused big problems for Atlantic Canada.
The hurricane formed South East of Bermuda on the 24th when a tropical wave tracked into the Atlantic Ocean. It hit land on the 28th in Prince Edward Island as a category two hurricane. It was still a category two for a while after that, and was active until the next day.The damage was mostly spread out across Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The main cause of all the damage was the high winds gusting up to 185 kilometers and hour. It cost about 113 million dollars to repair all of the damage done to our power lines and clearing all of the tree's that had fallen into houses and roads. They also had to repair the roads from the flooding that had happened.
There were many negatives side effect's that the hurricane caused on Atlantic Canada. It destroyed many home's and caused people to be out of power for several days. There was no power in many schools so children could not go to school, and there was work to be caught up on. People also couldn't go to work, and most likely had trouble finding places for their children to go if they're work did decide to stay open. Many tree's in our parks had been destroyed and ripped up. Point Pleasant Park lost 85% of its trees, and remained closed until June of 2004.
While there were many negative effects, there was a good side effect as well. Around the time the hurricane hit, there was an outbreak of Spruce Beetles. They were eating away at our tree's, and though the hurricane did destroy many trees, it was able to kill many Spruce Beetles as well. Though the trees were killed, they can be regrown and we can have hope that the beetle won't come back and hurt our trees once again. The Spruce Beetle does a lot of harm to our forests.
Though this hurricane was terrible, I believe that it was also good because of the fact it killed off many of the beetles. These natural disasters are unfortunate but a very real part of life. I think its important that people should be ready and prepared for events like this. That way when hurricanes and storms happen, the time it takes to repair all the damages can be minimal. Hurricane Juan was a horrible and memorable storm for many.
